Port Stephens enjoys an excellent whale season and Moonshadow – TQC Cruises offer two great Whale Watching Cruise options from Nelson Bay lasting 2.5 to 3 hours (and this year departures from Tea Gardens on Wednesdays and Sundays starting June.)

Whale watching  season is traditionally  from mid May to early November in Port Stephens.

You will never forget seeing the awesome bulk of a Humpback whale, that can be up to 18 metres long and weighing as much as 40 tonnes!

Join us May 15th for the start of the 2021 Whale Watching season and our Early Bird Cruises for pre season reconaissance trips – starting from Nelson Bay.




Departing at 10.00am and 1.30pm daily during Whale Watching Season.

This 30 metre super cat is licensed for 260 passengers – but will be carrying limited numbers till restrictions are lifted. With 2 walk around decks – great viewing, take this opportunity to enjoy the space.

These vessels are smaller in size but deliver in viewing. Both boats are twin levels, with walk around decks and 360 degree views.

Being the most surface active of all the whales, it is possible that you will see spectacular displays – spy hops, pectoral slaps, body rolls and … the breathtaking breach. Enjoy entertaining and informative commentary and the cruise includes bonus dolphin and outer island cruising – two cruises for the price of one! With two vessels to choose from and great viewing decks (both inside and outside), you can be sure you are getting the best view of these friendly giants.

  • Dress warmer for winter months
  • If you or any member of your party experience or feel they may experience motion sickness, we highly recommend consulting your pharmacist regarding sea sickness medication
